Who Are We?

Route 6 Family

20 Years of Excellence

Mid-State Construction was started as a small business in 2000 that focused on Metal Roofing. David Greene, the company’s founder and owner, started with a dream to work hard, be persistent, and put food on the table for his family. As the business grew, David’s wife Cheryle joined the company and helped with the accounting and other back of house managing. Eventually, Cheryle would quit her job as a nurse to come work for Mid-State Full time and become a co-owner.

Together, David and Cheryle managed to build their business into large operation it is today. They went from running the business out of their home, to purchasing a large shop on US. Highway 82 to run the business out of. They have 2 crews that can work on anything from humble metal roof replacement for residential customers, to light commercial work for the State of Alabama and everything in between.

David and Cheryle branched out in 2009, forming Mid-State Enterprise, with their purchase of a small beach home in Fort Morgan on Alabama’s Gulf Coast. The Deepwater Horizon Oil spill nearly cost them dearly, but due to hard work and diligence, they were able to see it through. Today, Mid-State Enterprises owns 2 beautiful homes a short walk from the Gulf of Mexico.

Eventually, they took over Smith Sanitation, A small rural Garbage collection service, from Cheryle’s mother who inherited from her father. The business has been in the family for over 50 years. They were able to keep the business going, eventually expanding it to several rural areas from Lawley to Calera. Smith Sanitation still operates with a single man truck, providing a vital service to those who the larger companies can’t, or won’t reach.

Their latest investment has been that of Route 6 Trading Post located right in front of Mid-State Construction’s main shop. A humble, country gas-station provides not only gas, but food and convenience to the local community. Situated on a large stretch of highway 82 in which there are no other gas-stations for miles comes as a relief to many travelers and locals alike.

David and Cheryle still run a tight ship with Mid-State Construction, and have been joined by their son, Cory as well as several other members of the family to help run their businesses. David still makes sure to personally oversee his company’s work and has no fear in picking up a hammer when he needs to. Cheryle runs the management side of the companies from the bookkeeping to the payroll with the help of another member of the family. Cory runs Smith Sanitation.

No matter how many investments, projects, companies, or hardships that we face as a company, our mission will always be to provide the most excellent service we can. Whether it is just some home repairs, roof replacements, or even building a home from scratch, the Mid-State family goes above and beyond to make sure that each person is satisfied. We believe that our work speaks for itself. We may be just a small business, but we hope that we have a huge impact on each person we help.
